I am a certified teacher, through Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), in Early Childhood Education / Special Education (birth - 3rd Grade).
I am accredited through the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC). I have learned a great deal through this process and as a result have made improvements to my business.
I have achieved Level 6 through the Maryland Child Care Credential Program. The Maryland Child Care Credential Program recognizes child care providers who go beyond the requirements of the state of Maryland. It is strictly a voluntary program. This program requires that I take additional training hours each year and document additional areas in my business where I’ve gone above and beyond to ensure quality child care in my program.
I have achieved a Maryland EXCELS check level 5 rating by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Maryland EXCELS is the state’s Quality Rating and Improvement System that awards ratings to child care and public prekindergarten programs that meet increasingly higher standards in key areas that are identified national as contributing to high quality.
I have completed numerous assessment trainings that are all Maryland state approved - the Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR), Teaching Strategies Gold (TS Gold) and Early Learning Assessment (ELA). Through these trainings I have fine tuned my observational skills, learned how to put together a portfolio and learned ways to help ensure children have the experiences and opportunities needed to prepare them for kindergarten by the time they leave Caution! Kids At Play Learning Academy.
On a more personal note, I have been married for 30 years to my wonderful and supportive husband, John. We have five children, and are blessed to have two grandchildren - one beautiful granddaughter, and one handsome grandson. We also have 2 fun and crazy puppies!
My dream has always been to work with children. Seventeen years ago when we decided to expand our family, I was blessed with the opportunity to start my family child care business, Caution! Kids at Play. Since that time I have had the opportunity to obtain my BA, become a certified teacher and am now specializing in an in-home preschool program for local families. I have LOVED every minute of this journey and look forward to sharing that love with you and your family.
